Rule of Three - Direct Proportion

Rule of tree - direct proportion

WHAT IS IT ?

The Rule of Three is a simple mathematical method for calculating direct or inverse proportionality of a quantity depending on another quantity according to the formula, where is a constant. Simply put, quantities are in direct proportion. Their ratio is equal to a constant. If the quantity doubles or triples, the other quantity will also double or triple as a result.

CALCULATION:

EXAMPLE:

A car consumes 6 liters of petrol per 100 kilometers. How many liters of petrol will it consume over 250 kilometers?

100 km ........ 6 liters

↑250 km ........ x liters

Thus

6 * (250 / 100) = x

6 * 2.5 = x

15 = x

The car will consume 15 liters of petrol over 250 km.
